Sherwin-Williams announces not just one color, but a Color Capsule of 9 fresh colors curated to stand out with any style. The year 2025 is all about a modern, fresh take on color, with a balanced and usable assortment of shades.
It's that time of year again. From now until the start of the new year, paint brands are announcing their Color of the Year picks for 2025. This year marks the 15th annual color announcement from Sherwin-Williams, and to mark the occasion, they have selected not one but nine stunning paints to set the tone for the year ahead.
"The Color Capsule of the Year showcases a diverse range of shades, including eclectic, classic, feminine, warm and cool tones, which is what we found so exciting about the concept," says Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing. "There’s something for everyone, all while maintaining a balanced and cohesive feel."
Clove
Dark and warm Clove, is the capsule's richest shade — and Sue's personal favorite. This nearly-black paint has a hint of warm brown in it, creating a moody effect that's intense but not harsh. "We’ve seen these warm, dark neutrals come up everywhere in the fashion industry lately," she says. "I love that this shade is the perfect balance between elegant and restorative."
Chartreuse
Can a color feel trendy and timeless at the same time? Yes, it can — and Chartreuse is the proof. Sherwin-Williams has included this paint from it's historic collection in the 2025 capsule. It feels fresh, bright and eclectic — and surprisingly easy to incorporate into your home. "If you're looking to add pops of color through accent walls or cabinetry, I’d recommend Chartreuse," says Sue.
Malabar
Dreamy, sandy beige for the win. Malabar is a slightly warm neutral that blends with all the other colors in the 2025 capsule. As shown in this bathroom, it also plays well with white-washed wood tones and black hardware.
Rain Cloud
It's no surprise this blue-gray paint (from Sherwin-Williams' Designer Color Collection) is included in the 2025 capsule. It leans into the current moody paint trends while still feeling classic. Whether your style is modern or traditional, Rain Cloud might be the perfect stormy blue paint for you.
Mauve Finery
Reminiscent of some of our favorite flowers — lavender, lilac, salvia and more —this gray-tinted pale purple adds a touch of botanical beauty to the collection. Much like a bouquet of blooms, Mauve Finery will instantly liven up any room — either on the walls or as an accent color. "Homeowners can use the capsule simply as a color guide and include some of these shades through décor items," reminds Sue. For a pretty pop of purple, try bringing in a pillow, blanket or art.
Sunbleached
Say hello to your new favorite neutral. Toeing the line between warm and cool, Sunbleached is any easy-to-use shade that will blend with any other colors in the capsule — and probably a lot of colors you already have in your home. This deeper than white (but not quite gray) shade is a unique neutral to try in 2025. Sue notes: "I’m biased towards Sunbleached, since it’s currently the color on my bedroom walls!"
Grounded
Brown is back — and it's just as cozy as ever. "1970s vintage is making a huge comeback in design in the upcoming year," says Sue. Grounded, a rich brown shade with red undertones, has an innate homey quality that makes spaces feel inviting and lived-in. But this deep chestnut hue is dark enough to still seem fresh and modern. "If you wish to transform your space into a dark, dramatic yet restorative sanctuary, I’d recommend Grounded," says Sue.
Bosc Pear
Warm things up with Bosc Pear — another '70s-inspired pick. This golden hue evokes the kind of natural beauty found in sunsets and autumn leaves and reflects the shift to warmer tones in the design space. In this home office, an accent wall gives the whole room a cozy feel.
White Snow
Rounding out this year's collection is a go-to white paint that can be used alongside any and all of the other colors: White Snow. This dazzling white is from Sherwin-Williams' Designer Color Collection and is a repeat pick from pros. With a high light reflectance value, it's sure to make any space feel lighter and brighter.
